• (FULL YEAR):    During this year King Frederick William III of Prussia continues his attitude of deferential respectfullness towards the House of Austria, because he shares the ideology of conservatism. • (NO SPECIFIC DATE):    At some time during this year the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania finally completes a complicated system, part canal and part railroad, over the mountains to Pittsburgh. • (NO SPECIFIC DATE):    At some time during this year in the United States of America a decision is made to retain the bi-metalic monetary standard, but to change the ratio of the two metals. The gold weight of the dollar is reducedf rom 24.75 grains of fine gold to 23.2 grains; the weight of the silver dollar is left at 371.25 grains. • (NO SPECIFIC DATE):    At some time during this year, from a base in Switzerland, the Italian nationalist Joseph Mazzini organizes a kind of fillibustering expedition against the kingdom of Sardinia. • (NO SPECIFIC DATE):    At some time during this year a new Poor Law is enacted in England. Howeer, this new law is especially repugnant to the British working classes. Its main principle is to safeguard the labor market by making relief more unpleasant than any job.
