This is a series of battles between the French and their Indian allies on one side and the English colonists and their Indian allies on the other. • (NO SPECIFIC DATE):    By some time during this year the population of the English town of Deerfield in the English colony of Massachusetts in North America has grown to 260  people. However, according to historian Richard I. Melvoir, the town is "alone and exposed on the frontier" of the British New England colonies, with the nearest English settlement  being fifty miles away.  (Source:  New E ngland Outpost, by Richard I.
